What is the Vertical Pressure Leaf Filter used for?
Vertical Pressure Leaf Filters (VPLF) are industrial scale filtration devices that are often used where high flow rates are required. Applications include resins, bleaching earth / activated carbon, crude oil, Ni-catalyst, brine filtration, glucose, fatty acid, winterisation, electrolyte and the beverage industry.
What filtration capacity does it offer?
It is made for filtration of liquids with suspended solid contents up to 7%, with a filtration area of up to 120 m².
Does it need a filter cloth?
No. There is no filter cloth requirement. Each filter leaf is made of 3 or 5 layers of stainless meshes: the slurry is pumped under pressure into the vessel, the solid particles are trapped by the wire mesh, and the filtered liquid, called the filtrate, passes through into the collection outlet (manifold).
How is the filtered cake discharged?
The cake after filtration can be dried by passing steam, air or nitrogen. Dried cake is dislodged from the bottom through a butterfly valve by a pneumatic vibrator attached to the filter leaves, or by an oscillating sluice header. Dry or wet cake discharge is possible, and slurry discharge of filtered solids is also possible through sluicing arrangements.
